Nexus2's arpeggiator and Trancegate each have their own pages and are among the best we've seen. In addition to the usual arpeggiator modes for up, down, order, etc., the Nexus2 has a small sequencer in which you can set the octave and – new for v2 – toggle halftone for each step.
Screen blend and effects
The Mix screen is perhaps the most useful new feature. Nexus patches are generated from up to four layers, and you can now mute layers and set volume, pan, switch, and disassembly parameters. This is very welcome, and by stacking Nexus2 instances, you can effectively merge layers from separate patches. In addition to front panel delay and reverb, you can now apply two universal effects, instead of just one. They are: Chorus, Flanger, Phaser, Ensemble, Degreaser, Distortion, Phaser, and New for v2, Stereo Enhancer and Analog Developer. New preset librarian that stores / calls up effects settings.
The stereo optimizer is easy to use and works over a specific frequency range, but the analog phase device is the true star. It is licensed by ArtsAcoustic (who also supplied the great, professional-quality Nexus frequencies) and gives a lush, smooth tone that sets it apart from the current jazz. It has more controls too, with adjustable upper / lower frequencies up to 16 stages. With the velocity set to 0, the position of the phase device can be directly manipulated using the lower frequency value, which is a destination in the model matrix. The appropriate Standard Equalizer has been added, with eight filter options for each of the four ranges. Oddly, the values displayed on the screen do not correspond to the affected frequencies – when we requested a 5 kHz boost, the peak was actually at 1 kHz.
